Spiritual direction creates safe spaces so you can

  • explore your questions with God

  • seek discernment about your life

  • find ways to listen to Him intentionally and

  • grow in intimacy with Him.

A Christian spiritual director has been trained as a listener to accompany you on your spiritual journey- its ups and downs, becoming attentive to God’s activity in your life.

Spiritual direction is not counseling, coaching or therapy.  It is meant to compliment rather than compete with these other vital ministries.

As a spiritual director in spiritual care, I walk with you to:

  • Listen as you seek God’s face and presence
  • Keep open a safe space so you can notice God’s love, care and constancy
  • Celebrate God’s work of transformation
  • Pray continually, give thanks and walk alongside you

Prayer Resources

From time to time, prayers or ways to pray will be added to this section.

This is an article I wrote on how to pray using your breathe as a way to connect with God and be aware of His presence throughout the day.

Prayer Can Be As Easy As Breathing

Book Reviews

One of my favorite go-to books is by my friends, Clare and Scott Loughridge and Adelle and Doug Calhoun.

Spiritual Rhythms for the Enneagram: A Handbook for Harmony and Transformation

If you have only one reference book right now on prayer and spirituality, this is the book for you.

Even if you have not explored the Enneagram, this book is written in such a practicial, easy-to-access manner, that you will find ways to seek after God, and yourself and even connect better with others.

Articles

If you are wondering about contemplative prayer practices, this article, “What Happens When You Read Scripture Verses Three Times?”  I wrote about lectio divina gives you a glimpse of how to match your head and your heart together.

This prayer practice allows  you to connect to the scripture and God in a different way. It’s an ancient prayer practice from the Desert Mothers and Fathers.

I hope you’ll give it a try.

The Welcome Prayer by Thomas Keating

 Welcome, welcome, welcome

I welcome everything that comes today, because I know it is for my healing.

I welcome all thoughts, feelings, emotions, situations, and conditions.

I let go of my desire for power and control.

I let go of my desire for affection, esteem, approval and pleasure.

I let go of my desire for  survival and security.

I let go of my desire to change any situation,  condition, person or myself.

I open to the love and presence of God and God’s action within.

Amen

I love our time together. There is something so sacred and special about you holding the space for me and I can feel God’s truths trickling deeper into my soul.

Deanne Welch

I love how you taught me to slow down and notice how God works. And also how to use different prayer practices to help me learn how to communicate with God, well beyond the usual “Help me with this…”
